Peer Participation in Mental Health

Launched in January 2017, the Peer Participation Project aims to support the active involvement of people with a lived or living experience of mental illness in the planning, operation and evaluation of mental health services in the Brisbane North region.  Peer participation can occur at a range of levels including the individual, service, organisational and regional level.  Brisbane North PiR now hosts a monthly Peer Participation in Mental Health Network meeting held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, has identified and offered training opportunities through a scholarship program and now has a mailing list of over 150 people with a lived experience interested in participating more in mental health services.  As a part of the project a new peer participation section has been added to My Mental Health website and includes information on:

  • what is peer participation?
  • about the project
  • consumer/carer participation oppportunities
  • links to relevant peer training
  • peer workforce resources
  • research on peer work and
  • useful links to peer related tools and resources.

Check out the new section and/or for further information please contact Paula Arro - Peer Participation Project Coordinator on paula.arro@brisbanenorthphn.org.au or (07) 3490 3437.
