NDIS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Emerging Leaders Project

CONNECTIONS INC. in Partnership with Caboolture Community Medical Proudly launch the NDIS Sector Development – Provider Readiness Project for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, funded by the Dept. Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services. Connections will be delivering the NDIS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Emerging Leaders Project across QLD from June this year until June 2018. This Project will work with 8 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Queensland providing NDIS and Business training to upskill local mentors. The project will support local champions to meet community identified needs and provide sustainability and local ownership of the transition to the NDIS The Project will be: · consulting and engaging with a full range of sectors within participating communities, including Elders, community leaders, businesses, government, local councils and people with disability, their families and carers · supporting these communities to develop place-based, culturally appropriate supports to people with disability that reflect the needs of people, their families and carers, and the community · identifying and supporting existing, new and potential organisations and businesses to enhance their knowledge, skills and capacity to deliver culturally appropriate supports and services under the NDIS · identifying, supporting and developing market opportunities within communities to improve economic outcomes · identifying, linking and where possible, expanding existing community-based initiatives · Increase community based workforce opportunities (Cert III Individual Support) · promoting access and inclusion in the broader community, and; · engaging with providers already delivering readiness initiatives where the focus and outcomes of initiatives are aligned · developing a Service Capacity Building Toolkit, which will be available for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Communities to utilise as a resource Connections would also like to acknowledge our Provider Readiness colleagues, and look forward to working collaboratively over the next year.
