Changing Lives, Changing Communities ... play your part

We are very excited to announce the next stage of the QCOSS Movement for change – a series of Changing Lives, Changing Communities events in 13 locations across Queensland. These events will build on the knowledge gained and actions developed on the second day of the QCOSS State Conference - Movement for change that was held in Brisbane in May.

While we had originally planned for five one-day workshops, we quickly realised that we want to offer communities more. We are working with a range of like-minded partners to ensure we can go to as many communities as possible and spend as much time as needed working with those communities as they build their movement for change.  The QCOSS Board has also approved new investment in seven events, representing a very real commitment by QCOSS to drive change across Queensland communities.

The Changing Lives Changing Communities events in Toowoomba, Mackay, Caboolture, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Normanton are funded through Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) National Readiness Grants - National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) –  a partnership between QDN, QCOSS and ADCQ.

Upcoming events:

Changing Lives, Changing Communities - Brisbane, 28 & 29 November

Changing Lives, Changing Communities - Caboolture, 3 & 4 December

We invite you to join us at a location near you for a free, two-day event where we can work together to create a community where everyone contributes, matters and belongs. We will work with you to develop a shared vision for your local community and you will leave with actions that you can take both individually and collectively to make real social change. The insights and experience you gained at the QCOSS State Conference will be invaluable to others in your community as we continue this movement beyond Brisbane.

During the two days we will discuss the stories we want to tell in our communities and how they can change the outcomes for people everywhere. Then we will work through a process to create the movement for change.

This will be a hands-on session, drawing from the strength and wisdom in the room, to develop a vision and key actions for change.

At the end of day 1, there will be a Community Marketplace where mainstream and community providers will be invited to showcase what they do and their inclusive services.  We also welcome any social enterprises to be part of this exciting market place (more about the markeplace below or register your interest)!

Bring a friend, bring a colleague. Changing Lives, Changing Communities is your opportunity to be part of a movement for change towards inclusive communities by 2030.

We appreciate the commitment of Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN); Townsville City Council; Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland (ADCQ); Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) and Energy Queensland.

About the Community Marketplace

As part of the Changing Lives Changing Communities two-day event, we are hosting a Community Marketplace as a space to bring together people and mainstream and community providers, services and business to connect, network, discover and learn about what is available in their community.

The Marketplace will also provide an opportunity for Government agencies, providers and for businesses to showcase their inclusive services and products. Social enterprises are also welcome to be part of this community marketplace.

As funded supports for people with disability increase due to the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and people are looking for services, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

The Marketplace will be held on the first day of each two-day event from 4pm - 6pm.

All participants of the forum will be invited and the invitation will be extended more broadly in the community.
